Stayka's World of Darkness Stuff | Etherites Go! Campaign | Online Games Overview
Bill_Irvine - Marvin David_Pietersen - qadn Doc_Helga - Stayka Lady_Samantha - Fuzzy Mihakai_Himiko - Dingo Rev_Jones - Picks-at-Flies La_ST - Stayka
<La_ST> Last time we were trying to figure out to find the culprits, after Asmo managed to kill off the best trace to find them. Rev Jones, Bill and Doc Helga were freed, but the Heli with the set coordinates for the rendezvous was destroyed. So now you know the bad guys were somewhere on Iceland, but not where. Himiko and Helga wanted to check the Geophysics lab of the University of Reykjavik to follow a trace, but I'm not sure what the others were up to.
<Picks-at-Flies> I thought we had avoided the "split the party" bit and had some big plan.
<La_ST> Well, we could continue with a somewhat botched rescue attempt in which then the missing players got caught. That would mean the baddies then have not only Bill sr, but also Nate and Rhi in their clutches... The rest got barely out and now has to regroup.
<La_ST> Well, so how shall we continue?
<Picks-at-Flies> So Helga and Himiko were off to see Verena...
<La_ST> Yup.
<Picks-at-Flies> Other leads involved chasing up Baldurson's family...
<La_ST> But the question is - shall be really continue there or with a supposedly botched rescue attempt?
<Picks-at-Flies> Well, I am just trying to put together all the things people might have been doing.
<La_ST> :)
<Picks-at-Flies> And there were the geologists who wanted to drill into the mantle, which might have been the same as the Verena link.
<Picks-at-Flies> Up?
<Picks-at-Flies> So who were you thinking might have needed rescuing?
<La_ST> Bill Irvine sr. and some geophysicists and other oilmagnates
<Picks-at-Flies> So you were thinking of skipping ahead to having found them, then botching the rescue?
<La_ST> Yup, because that way we could just have Asmo and Rhi caught and thus out of the game for the time being
<Picks-at-Flies> ok
<Picks-at-Flies> You better describe how we got to that point...
<La_ST> Ok.
<Picks-at-Flies> at least, roughly.
<Marvin_Black> (Yeah up. I suffer from low pressure, when I have a cold, so I easyly get dizzy)
<La_ST> Due to a lead Himiko and Helga found at the university (they were able to look into some seismic data of the Iceland area), they discovered there was likely a base under the Vatnajökull. As Nathan had managed to hinder them to follow the helicopter to its base, this was the best lead so far.
<La_ST> Here's a Map of Iceland: http://infinity.homelinux.net/ wod/pics/kram/iceland-map.jpg
<Picks-at-Flies> Where is Vatnathingy?
<La_ST> So the group decided to launch a mission to get into that base and get the prisoners out. Nathan managed to act somewhat unwisely again, and thus the group almost got caught...
<Picks-at-Flies> Oh yeah, that.
<La_ST> The Vatnajökull is the largest lake there
<La_ST> But they did manage to escape nonetheless, using a small submarine stationed there at the base, and they got out, but hat to leave behind Nate who got in the middle of the trouble and the prisoners. Rhi also was captures, and so thery now have to figure out how to get back at the baddies and fee the others now for good
<La_ST> Sam was called by Rhi before the whole action and now had to witness the botched action and the fact that Rhi had to be left behind, too.
<La_ST> Okay, and that's the situation now... The group managed to get out of the sub and the Lake, but is now a bit down due to the fact that it didn't work out as hoped
<Rev_Jones> Blazing hells! Why did he have to blow that control panel?
<Doc_Helga> Hm. He can be a bit too impulsive at times... But this was a bit... very unwise
<Bill_Irvine> Bullshit! This bloody hothead! Jeez! Sympathizing with commies and running in blind...
<Rev_Jones> I am just hoping he will live long enough to learn from his mistakes.
<Doc_Helga> This means now we have increased our troubles...
<Doc_Helga> Not only are the kidnapped people still there, but the baddies now know that we are after them
<Bill_Irvine> Learn? He never learned anything it seems!
<Mihakai_Himiko> hmm.. we better leave Iceland soon... before it is sunk to the bottom of the ocean...
<Rev_Jones> In reality, they must have known something anyway.
<Doc_Helga> Well, I guess the action with the helicopter at the oilplatform didn't go by unnoticed either
<Rev_Jones> But they may now know who we are, or at least what we are capable of.
<Rev_Jones> That puts my village at rest, and any and all of your families.
<Doc_Helga> Well, at the moment they have Rhi and Nathan as lever against us
<Bill_Irvine> My family? Oh I forgot... We are not involved in any way right now...
<Rev_Jones> Sorry Bill.
<Rev_Jones> I don't think we can run away from this though.
<Rev_Jones> Does anyone think they know how much firepower this group can bring to force?
<Doc_Helga> Hm. They did experience Nate's
<Mihakai_Himiko> Do your friends have any friends ?
<Bill_Irvine> But not mine...
<Doc_Helga> But I think they don't really have seen much of the rest.
<Doc_Helga> We did try to sneak into the base after all
<Bill_Irvine> I doubt they guess someone can bomb em to hell!
<Rev_Jones> I meant, how much the owner's of the base have.
<Rev_Jones> If they are truly after us, it would not be out of the question to lay a trap for them.
<Doc_Helga> Well, I am not really good to assess anyone's firepower...
<Bill_Irvine> I have a full armed B52 and goddam, I *am* able to build bombs!
<Doc_Helga> But to mee it looked they had more guard type persons. The oilplatforn didn't really look armed, and neither did the helicopert they used
<Rev_Jones> So perhaps they only had booby traps and some guards.
<Rev_Jones> Admitedly, guards armed with automatic weapons.
<Doc_Helga> Well, they had a lot of guards - at least down there in that station...
<Bill_Irvine> And reember when it all began...
<Bill_Irvine> That was a fucking army out there in the jungle!
<Doc_Helga> Hm. I think that was before my time
<Lady_Samantha> ah yes
<Mihakai_Himiko> They can be very dangerous..
<Rev_Jones> I think it would be fatal to show our faces there again unless we are prepared, but I have had a thought.
<Mihakai_Himiko> they could level entire cities..
Doc_Helga looks toward Himiko.
<Bill_Irvine> I remember three helis fully armed and full armed troopers. I felt like back in Nam!
<Rev_Jones> I have for years being making copies out of the British Library from a distance.
<Doc_Helga> Do you have an idea how we can try to get the others out?
<Rev_Jones> I wonder if I could do something similar for log books, or even keys.
<Doc_Helga> I have the impression that you are better in tactics than me or maybe the Rev or David...
<Lady_Samantha> or me
Rev_Jones looks at Bill.
<Doc_Helga> Rev: Well, it would be worth a try
<Rev_Jones> No ideas Bill?
Bill_Irvine scratches his head, throws down the cigar he had in his mouth and instantly lights another one.
<Mihakai_Himiko> hmm, if this is part of the organisation that attacked you in the jungle, then there is bound to be some reinforcements showing up at the base real soon. And perhaps some interogators.
<Bill_Irvine> Right now I feel like bombing them to hell!
<Rev_Jones> And kill your father?
<Mihakai_Himiko> Or they will bring in some crews and relocate the entire facility to another location..
<Lady_Samantha> umms we do need toi extract Nate, Rhi and your father tho
<Doc_Helga> Interrogators? I think then we should try to get out Nathan and Rhi fast - but how?
<Rev_Jones> The guards had security passes... I am not sure I can copy those.
<Rev_Jones> Did anyone see if the locks were electronic or key- based?
<Doc_Helga> They looked pretty electronic to me
<Bill_Irvine> I sae what happened, when we tried to fiddle with their coms
<Mihakai_Himiko> exactly.
<Rev_Jones> So we are looking for a list of keypad numbers?
<Mihakai_Himiko> Hmm.. how about........
<Mihakai_Himiko> Is any of you good with radio transmissions ?
<Mihakai_Himiko> actually it's probably not radio... but you get the point..
<Rev_Jones> Helga, could I borrow your laboratory for an hour or two?
<Mihakai_Himiko> (oh, it is radio.. darn I keep forgetting the timeline we play in)
<Mihakai_Himiko> (no electronic locks (at lost not very secure ones) either)
<Doc_Helga> Well, I know a little about transmission stuff
<Rev_Jones> I will see if I can create a copy of my machine - you should have similar equipment to me.
<Bill_Irvine> I'm more into chemestry
<Doc_Helga> Although I mainly try to transmit objects
<Doc_Helga> Rev Jones, you are welcome
<Doc_Helga> Just don't disturb my geophysical data recorders
Rev_Jones heads off to potter.
<Rev_Jones> Sure.
<Bill_Irvine> If you need to know anything about alloys when building stuff I can help out, too
<Lady_Samantha> I can help with locksnmitthing if needed
<Doc_Helga> (Himiko: Well, remember that we have some extraordinary stuff here, too. Maybe the others have some, too?)
<Bill_Irvine> And of course I can upgrade our arms and put together some special bullets...
<Mihakai_Himiko> (ST: Sure but remember... we play almost 25 years in the past... really amazing stuff is still stuff we all take for granted in this time)
<Lady_Samantha> (I remember asking Bill to make me a Bill Irvine special handgun (as a contract deal))
<Lady_Samantha> (along with approriate ammo)
<Doc_Helga> (True. Although we can be a little lenient once in a while - at least as long as we deal with certain baddies that also know a little more than the average Earth citizens)
<Mihakai_Himiko> Anyways, there's some tricks we could apply.
<Mihakai_Himiko> Going in there guns blazing isn't smart.
<Mihakai_Himiko> Using explosives, even though I just love a good explosion might just be the stupidiest thing to do....
<Mihakai_Himiko> So, to get them out we're left with 2 options..
<Mihakai_Himiko> stealth or guile.
Rev_Jones pops back in.
<Rev_Jones> Before we make a decision, we may want to find out more about the base.
<Lady_Samantha> hmms
<Rev_Jones> Hmmm... blueprints...
<Bill_Irvine> Yup... Might be the best. Knowledge might be they key, as much as I would like to bust their asses
<Doc_Helga> Blueprints of some secret base?
<Rev_Jones> (ST, you had better give us a desciption of what we did see...)
<Lady_Samantha> I've been working on a few new "toys& quot;
Mihakai_Himiko chuckles
<La_ST> (Well, the base had at least one entrance from the ground (that was the one you managed to sneak in through)
<David_Pietersen> mmm, I can try to see what I can find on this base of their
<David_Pietersen> s
<La_ST> (Then there was a little undersea access port with three (now two) subs that could be used to evacuate the base if need be
<Mihakai_Himiko> hmm..
<Mihakai_Himiko> I have an idea...
<Rev_Jones> I seem to remember watching a James Bond film... with all those baddies around, how would they recognise a few new faces?
<Rev_Jones> Oh, sorry, go on Anna.
<La_ST> (You were trying to sneak through stealthily, but the guards to the prison cells were placed strateigally well, and when trying to take them out, Nate was a bit too optimistic and triggered n alarm
<Mihakai_Himiko> Just one access door above ground...
<Mihakai_Himiko> and one underwater..
<Mihakai_Himiko> We could gas them, if we find their air intakes..
<La_ST> (I said at least an entrance at ground level. There could be one or two others as possible escape ways)
<La_ST> (Iceland is tectonically active after all)
<Rev_Jones> Believe it or not, I think it might be a viable plan.
<Bill_Irvine> If they have seen those faces before I bet they remember. Ever saw a western movie and those nice wanted pics?
<Mihakai_Himiko> And even if we don't have all the ground level entrances.. we still might be smoking them out.
<Lady_Samantha> "Identity clone / Invisablity sheild& quot;
<Lady_Samantha> This apparatus is equipped with stealth capability, it can render itself and its operator
<Lady_Samantha> invisable, it can change its and its operators, apparent shape, and sound (illusion).
<Lady_Samantha> F1+F2, P2, C1+C2
<Rev_Jones> While it may not take out everyone, it would cripple security.
<Doc_Helga> Well, it sounds like a plan to me
<Lady_Samantha> One of my new things
<Lady_Samantha> might help there
<Rev_Jones> What is this F1 stuff?
<La_ST> (Sam: No need to mention the Spheres you use. Please just explain the stuff the thing *does*)
<Lady_Samantha> (err that was meant as a OOC to show the device's abilit ;()
<Rev_Jones> (In character)
<Rev_Jones> (No use to use out of character)
<La_ST> (We don't need the OOC. Just IC)
<Lady_Samantha> ok - anyway this thing lets one lok like/sound like a diffewent person
<Doc_Helga> How does it work?
<Lady_Samantha> as well as offer invisibilty/silence
<Bill_Irvine> The gas sounds fine... I could research a chemical base for that. And I am for arming up, as a backup plan
<Rev_Jones> Tranquilisers would be fine Bill.
<Doc_Helga> Well, just don't use anything deadly. Remember, there are prisoners there we need to save
<Rev_Jones> I am searching for a list of employees.
<Doc_Helga> Searching? Where?
<Rev_Jones> If we have enough of you devices we can masquerade.
<Bill_Irvine> If someone gets me some basic tranqs I would analyze them and add some effectiveness to them...
<Lady_Samantha> its based on my existing Etheric Defelection shield" idea -- its invisability effect is done by bending elctromagnetics around its area so the space appears empty
<Doc_Helga> Sounds intriguing.
<Rev_Jones> Hopefully somewhere in the region of the base, Helga.
<Lady_Samantha> and the copying effect is done by noting an existing sample and duplicating it
<La_ST> (Sam: The only drawback is - you can use it, but very likely the others can't. It is keyed to your Spheres after all)
<Rev_Jones> Unfortunately I have only tested the device in the libraries, so I am not sure how well it will fare.
<Doc_Helga> Well, try it!
<Rev_Jones> (would it help if I make the roll now? ;) )
<La_ST> (Make it so)
Rev_Jones rolled 3d10 dice and got: 4, 7, 8
<Rev_Jones> (2 sux)
<Lady_Samantha> (hmm - I guess we'd have to have each Scientist see if they can grasp the theory .. if they happen to know thje right spheres)
<Rev_Jones> (and the right paradigm0
<La_ST> (Rev: Well, sounds good enough to me. You do manage to get a duty roster )
<Lady_Samantha> (thinking about it, it might work for Helga, but not for Himiko )
<Rev_Jones> (with addresses?)
<La_ST> (a list with the guys there and their schedules)
<La_ST> (No adresses. But the full names)
Rev_Jones heads back into the lab. After a few minutes there is a cry of "Thank you Mary!".
<Bill_Irvine> Does he have any women in there?
<Lady_Samantha> hmm - who's Mary?
Rev_Jones wanders back in, clutching half a dozen sheets of paper.
<Doc_Helga> Got it?
<Rev_Jones> Hmm, we have front gate, subgate 1, subgate 2...
<Mihakai_Himiko> that depends on the Reverends exact believes, but I assume he's talking about Mary, the mother of Christ..
<Lady_Samantha> ah ok
<Doc_Helga> Huh? What did you get there?
<Rev_Jones> We even have Permanent Undersecretary of the Second Lieutenant Violet.
Rev_Jones passes the sheets round.
<Rev_Jones> Unfortunately, no addresses or contact details.
<Doc_Helga> Neat.
<Rev_Jones> Just names and some personal code.
<Mihakai_Himiko> hmmm
<Doc_Helga> Well, some of the names aren't too often. With a little luck one can find them out just with the phone book.
<Rev_Jones> ...and hopefully they keep their uniform at home.
<Doc_Helga> Although there are quite some foreign names, too. Some sound pretty English, if you ask me. And that one is very likely Russian...
<Bill_Irvine> No rare names. Are you out of your minds?
<Doc_Helga> Hm. Chinese? I'm not sure, but at least Asian it sounds... So they hired a couple of local people, but had a lot imported, too.
<Bill_Irvine> Which names stick to your mind? Smith, Jones or Huckleback?
<Bill_Irvine> It's easier to rememeber the face to a rare name, than to a common
<Doc_Helga> More like Einarsdottir and Halfdansson
<Rev_Jones> What about a group less obvious, cleaners perhaps?
<Doc_Helga> Okay, the former is not too rare, but I can't remember too many Alvgardssons
<Bill_Irvine> We would need to know how they run around, but the uniforms. Such a small cart with cleaning stuff could hide our equipment
<Doc_Helga> Hm. The guards did have uniforms, but I wonder whether a cleaning troupe has such
<Doc_Helga> Prolly some cleaners' coats or the like
<Rev_Jones> Well, why don't we ask... Svantje Einarsdottir. Right here, on duty tomorrow at 3 am.
<Mihakai_Himiko> Hmmz..
<Doc_Helga> She's from the cleaning crew?
<Mihakai_Himiko> There is another way..
<Rev_Jones> Yes. And very hard working. She seems to cover two whole floors by herself.
<Mihakai_Himiko> Helga.. do you have any knowledge about creating Earthquakes ?
<Doc_Helga> Well, theoretical, yes
<Bill_Irvine> Whoa... Thinking big here...
Rev_Jones blinks
<Doc_Helga> You just need to put a bomb at a faultline that has a certain stress pattern, and you can make it go off
<Mihakai_Himiko> Or a bigger bomb just under the base...
<Doc_Helga> Well, that would certainly look like an Earth quake
<Mihakai_Himiko> But not so big it will destroy the base...
<Mihakai_Himiko> enough so they have to evacuate..
<Doc_Helga> Well, I'm no pro with bombs...
<Mihakai_Himiko> and when they do.... we head in with the sub, which I'm sure someone can fix.... and grab our friends..
<Bill_Irvine> Did I hear Bombs?
<Doc_Helga> I think I remember the seismic data from the university... THe area below the base was fairly stable... So a bomb there shouldn't hurt too much
<Mihakai_Himiko> Exactly.
<Bill_Irvine> Well, I am in with chemestry and metallurgy... I made some sticks of TNT more effective and with a special coating, so a stray bullet wont blow them...
<Bill_Irvine> Sounds quite much like it... In a bigger way...
<Doc_Helga> Well... You mean I should take the Surtr, plant the bomb and then disappear again?
<Mihakai_Himiko> Yes.
<Bill_Irvine> But how do we know they wont evacuate our friends or in which sub they're in
<Rev_Jones> Can we trace them?
<Rev_Jones> Rhiannon's signature must be fairly obvious.
<Doc_Helga> True
<Bill_Irvine> We could trim the radar in my Babe
Mihakai_Himiko ponders
<Bill_Irvine> The Lady's radar is adjustable
<Doc_Helga> I think we should be able to find her at least. And it is likely the others will be in the vicinity, too
<Bill_Irvine> But if they are split up into different groups?
<Mihakai_Himiko> Highly unlikely in the case of an unexpected earthquake... that means getting to safety..
<Mihakai_Himiko> which means there's protocols they'll follow...
<Bill_Irvine> But theycould keep our friends and my dad in different parts, so they are split up...
<Rev_Jones> If that is the case then we are probably out of luck anyway.
<Mihakai_Himiko> and I doubt that protocol dictates that every prisoner should be evacuated seperately..
<Mihakai_Himiko> now.. this bomb can't be of the normal version..
<Doc_Helga> Weren't the prison cells pretty close together?
<Doc_Helga> I mean, it would be silly to have them distributed over the base
<Doc_Helga> That way they only need a certain amount of guards
<Mihakai_Himiko> It should be a multiple stages bomb, resistant to high pressure and high temperatures..
<Mihakai_Himiko> actually....
<Bill_Irvine> But you could have a block with 'normal' prisoners and a high sec block for interrogation and special prisoners
<Mihakai_Himiko> a .. waterballoon ... might be just what we need to do this... instead of a bomb..
<Doc_Helga> Indeed. It is pretty hot down there
<Doc_Helga> It could suffice when the water vaporizes
<Bill_Irvine> Hmmm... SOunds less need for an alloy here, more for some chemical compund?
<Rev_Jones> So assuming you can find a bomb... or chemical or something that will explode,
<Mihakai_Himiko> we don't need an explosions as such..
<Mihakai_Himiko> we just need a rapid expanding gas.
<Doc_Helga> Just make the earth quake
<Mihakai_Himiko> which is an explosion in the most technical term..
<Rev_Jones> we reenter the compound via the sub, masquerade as cleaners until we reach the prisoners.
<Rev_Jones> Tranquilise
Rev_Jones looks at Bill
<Rev_Jones> the guards.
<Rev_Jones> And release the prisoners.
<Doc_Helga> And one way to do this it get liquid or solid water down there. As soon as it turns to gas, the volume increases and it can split even rock
<Rev_Jones> How do we get out?
<Mihakai_Himiko> and then release the water... which will & quot;slowly" become superheated steam and build up pressure..
<Mihakai_Himiko> same way you get in..
<Doc_Helga> Hm. I just see a technical problem there. The Surtr melts the stone in front an pumps it back to create movement. If I put the water there and reverse the engine, the water will be molten right away, and the blast will go the way the Surtr went
<Bill_Irvine> Hmmm... so which way to go? Tranq them and get them, or shock them?
<Rev_Jones> Tranq em.
<Bill_Irvine> What was it about air pumps? Do we know how they get fresh air down their?
<Bill_Irvine> They can't have air tanks that huge down there like a normal frigging sub
<Mihakai_Himiko> Actually... why not.
<Bill_Irvine> How many people are down their?
<Mihakai_Himiko> with the termal energy they have from the prime geological area, they have an infinite powersupply...
<Mihakai_Himiko> there's experimental submarines, which only need to come up to take in food...
<Bill_Irvine> Aw, where are the good ole times, when a fight was a real fight?
<Doc_Helga> Well, if we want to create a quake, we do need the water put into containers that can withstand molten rock at least for a while
<Rev_Jones> We could shut down their air conditioning unit, assuming we can find it, but would that make it any easier to get the prisoners?
<Mihakai_Himiko> wood
<Bill_Irvine> I could try to find a good alloy for that. But where do we get the basic compunds from?
<Mihakai_Himiko> Wonderfull material for heat proof storage..
<Bill_Irvine> You mean the stuff we burn every year in the winter?
<Mihakai_Himiko> yes, when completely immersed in extreme heat, the outside slowly burns away, insulating the inside...
<Mihakai_Himiko> (true, btw)
<Doc_Helga> Well, that would make a nice time bomb even
<Mihakai_Himiko> the hard part is that the timer is very inaccurate
<Bill_Irvine> Well I am in for alloys or enhancing a tranquilizing gas, like laughing gas or stuff...
<Doc_Helga> Hm. I havewn't built much with wood so far, I have to admit
<Rev_Jones> Well, I have, although I wouldn't know the insides.
<Bill_Irvine> The only would I ever handled is for the handles of my guns, if I use any
<Rev_Jones> I am not the best - I mostly leave it to the others to direct, I can put it together well enough.
<Mihakai_Himiko> Well it's the simplest material there is should you ever need some disposable heat shielding
<Bill_Irvine> And badly timeable heat shielding
<Mihakai_Himiko> no...
<Mihakai_Himiko> as a heatshield it's actually very suitable...
<Mihakai_Himiko> as long as it burns, it shields the craft from heat..
<Bill_Irvine> But it's hard to guess when it will be used up.
<Rev_Jones> It doesn't actually matter.
<Mihakai_Himiko> The Russians have been using cork for their space crafts ever since they decided it needed to come back in one piece
<Rev_Jones> It should be obvious when it takes effect.
<Doc_Helga> Well, I just hope it holds until the Surtr is far enough away
<Mihakai_Himiko> hmm.. perhaps we should do some quick shopping... (I'm heading to bed in a few)
<Rev_Jones> (I should probably do the same)
<Rev_Jones> (if we have a plan, I might suggest we leave it here...)
<La_ST> (Okay...)
